We spend much of our time indoors and the comfort of the interior spaces has a big impact on our well-being. The purpose of this study is to measure  effects of two different interior surface materials in spaces that are otherwise identical. The aim of the study is to make the well-being effects of surface materials visible and understandable.

We are looking for participants to evaluate different surface materials. Participants will spend time in interior spaces and complete a simple set of tasks and provide feedback by answering questions. At the same time stress reactions are measured from the participant to find the effectiveness of different materials on a person’s mental and physical well-being. Participation in the study does not require previous experience on the subject.

You are welcome to participate in the study, if

  • you are 18-60 years old
  • you are not taking medicines that affect your heart rate (Insulin-treated diabetes, thyroxine, psychotropic medicines, tricyclic antidepressants, clozapine)
  • you do not have a chronic arrhythmia

The participant should refrain from drinking coffee, eating or smoking for 2 hours prior to the measurement and avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours prior to the measurement.

The participant confirms their participation in the study by signing their consent to the processing of personal data in the study and participation in the study. The consent will be signed at the time of the study.

After participation, participants may receive a brief feedback on their measured heart rate variability and its effect on well-being.

The research will be carried out during July and August at Saimaa Stadium in Mikkeli (Raviradantie 22B).  The study is conducted by South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences,  Xamk. The participation length of the study is approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
